SweeTango Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Blogger Jehan created this apple-centric variation on an old-favorite cold weather grilled sandwich for the SweeTango growers’ cooperative in 2015. She says: “SweeTango apples are a great snacking apple, so it was perfect in the recipe because the apples remain crisp. The salty bacon and creamy Muenster cheese really complemented the sweetness of the apples.” Learn more about her at Jehan Can Cook. Ingredients
- 2 slices sourdough bread
- 2 slices cooked bacon, cut in half
- ½ SweeTango apple cored and sliced thinly
- 4 slices Muenster cheese
- 1 T butter, room temperature
Instructions
- To make the grilled cheese sandwich, place 2 slices of cheese on one slice of bread then top with sliced apples and bacon. Add remaining two slices of cheese on top, then top the other slice of bread. Butter the top of the sandwich then flip and repeat. Place a nonstick skillet over medium low heat, then place sandwich onto the skillet. Cook for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. Flip and cook until the other side is golden brown; cheese should be melted. If the cheese isn’t melted, then the heat is too high. Remove from pan and serve warm.
